About CIANA
CIANA is a small but dynamic Queens-based nonprofit social services organization that works to integrate new immigrants from the Middle-East/North Africa, South Asia, and Central/South America into American life and culture, and assist in their economic and social advancement. We provide holistic, culturally competent social, educational, legal, and informational programs to underserved new immigrant families in a safe and welcoming environment, guide them through American systems and laws, and help them successfully integrate into the socioeconomic and civic life of America.
Position Overview
Working in partnership with the CEO/Founder, the Board supports the work and growth of CIANA, and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. CIANA is looking for board candidates who want to make a difference and can devote time and dedication to a worthwhile cause. Expertise in business, government, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sector is welcomed. We are looking for skills in legal, fundraising/grantwriting, accounting/auditing, government contracting, organizational development, and marketing/public relations.
Time commitment is essential, and active involvement is critical and expected. The Board
members are expected to take a prominent role in fundraising activities, to assist with the
solicitation of funding from government, foundations, organizations, and individuals, and to
publicize CIANA through their networks to help support CIANA’s work. They are also expected to consider CIANA a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts within their capacity that reflect that priority.
Responsibilities include:

Providing leadership, governance, and fiscal oversight;

Building dynamic fundraising strategies and donor solicitation plans;

Serving on board committees and taking on special assignments;

Representing CIANA to stakeholders, and acting as ambassadors for the organization.
